BYU-Utah Football
This year BYU went into the Utah game in Salt Lake City riding on an 8-game winning streak. They had not had any close games and had never even been tied after 0-0 in the conference. Of course, that didn't stop the Utah team from spoiling our fun, as was to be expected.
Larisa and I had a couple of other families over to watch the game (over the internet). We watched a stellar first quarter; an easy 14-0. Then everything went bad. BYU couldn't do anything on offense over and over. I don't know what happened. And the defense kept getting worse and worse each drive. They had a few corners who were out on injury.
By the fourth quarter the score was 14-24. Then BYU turned on the heat. After catching up and then taking the lead with only about four minutes left we just needed a big defensive hold. It almost happened. Of course they went on every fourth down, and they made it. They scored the touchdown with under 1:20 left in the game. After the kickoff there was only 1:09. Then BYU made a classic finish. This was the 2001 season all over again but even more suspenseful. Beck took the last snap at the 11 yard line with three seconds on the clock. He held onto it forever (11 seconds), and as he was retreating across the field, about to get sandwiched between to defenders, he threw the ball to what looked like no one, completely across the field. Next thing we see is Jonny Harleen sliding in on his knees for the catch. It was classic.
