Matos and cumbers

Out garden has been producing such yummy veggies. First, we were feasting on the peas. Kids loved to shell them. I could tell when Lydia would snack on them, because the table would be covered with piles of shellings.

Cabbages were next. We fried up some flavorful dinners with those.

Now, our tomatoes and cucumbers are in season. Lydia loves her yellow cherry "blondcopchen" kind. We are getting only a dozen at a time now, so she inhales them in 2 seconds. Once in a while, Nyle gets one or two. This tomato grows out of control and produces like crazy by the end of the summer.

Tyler loves our cucumber, especially the ones that have "pokies" on them. He usually eats it like an apple, straight, with nothing on it. Today he requested his favorite sandwich with cheese and cucumber (that was his lunch of choice all last year). So we had to go find a cucumber for him in our garden. He ate seconds, which is so unusual for Tyler.

Nyle LOVES matos an cumber salad. I cut them up, adding sour cream and salt, Russian style, and he spoons it in. This makes me so happy. This is exactly why I grow a garden, so kids get to eat fresh, favorable veggies. I want them to love veggies like I do.

Broccoli was one of our last big harvests. It is hard to grow in our small raised bed garden, since it takes so much room, and produces pretty much one crown with a few tiny offshoots. But it was sure delicious. Lydia scooped up half of all broccoli on her plate. Awesome!

Now, we are about to pick our fist eggplant. Can't wait to make a ratatouille salad!
