Lydia's First Dive
Last week Lydia and Tyler started swimming lessons. We recently signed up to use the pool at the high school, and the kids love that, especially in the winter. They've always loved to swim, but they haven't done very much of it. So, while Lydia is quite good, she's very inexperienced.
Tyler had the easy class, which he loved, and Lydia was in the more advanced class. Lydia actually did quite well, even compared to the others in class, but you wouldn't have known it from her telling of it. She was distraught with tears freely flowing. Everything was too hard. They had to swim across the deep end. She couldn't see because the kids swimming in front of her were kicking water in her face. And so on and so on. But the worst part (and probably the entire reason she was upset) was that she was traumatized when they had all the kids dive in the pool at the end. She's never attempted that, and I'm surprised she even did it. It's amazing what she will do for an authority figure. When she dove in, she rotated over, as if she was doing a flip on the trampoline. This made her panic underwater and get water in her nose and everything. Poor girls.
